LEGAL HELP AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND
Clerk Self Service Centers assist more than 80,000 customers a year
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (May 5, 2010) –In today’s economy, everyone’s looking for ways to save. For many Palm Beach County residents, that means turning to the Clerk & Comptroller’s Self Service Centers for affordable legal resources.
Our Self Service Centers, located at the Main Courthouse in West Palm Beach and all branch locations, provide roughly 80,000 customers a year with everything from affordable attorney consultations to “do-it-yourself” forms for divorce, evictions, small claims and more.
Demand is high for these services, with more than 1,300 people seeking low-cost attorney consultations since January, and more than 8,000 people purchasing nearly 60 different civil court forms since the beginning of the year. Some of those forms—divorce, small claims and evictions—may be filled out online.
While legal forms are the most popular offering at our Self Service Centers, customers needing assistance filling out family law, small claims or landlord/tenant action court forms can also schedule appointments with an attorney for as little as $15 for 15 minutes. Attorneys may answer questions about completing the forms, but cannot offer specific legal advice.
Since 2004, when Florida’s Clerks began providing pro se assistance for those who represent themselves in court, nearly 350,000 Palm Beach County residents have received help at the Clerk’s four centers located at courthouses in West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Belle Glade.
The Clerk’s Self Service Centers also provide public access to computers, notary, copy and fax services, a video Relay system for hearing impaired, and community resource referrals for legal, mediation, counseling, and elder and social services.

The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the Clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents. In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
