Clerk Bock Warns of Restraining Order Scam

BEWARE OF CALLS ASKING FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Sharon Bock, Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County

I want to bring to your attention a scam that our office has been made aware of, which is similar to scams that have occurred in the past. This new scheme is using the Clerk & Comptroller’s office name to perpetuate fraud.

The incident that my office has been alerted to is a scheme where people are being told to call, or have their attorney call, regarding a restraining order involving them. The number being used in this situation is 561-288-6311. This phone number is not a Clerk’s office phone number and has been used in similar-sounding schemes where potential victims are asked for private information, such as Social Security numbers.

By protecting your personal information, you are taking the first step in protecting yourself from identity theft. It is important to remember that the Clerk’s office will never call you to ask for money, credit or bank account numbers, personal information or for other information about a case. If you think you may have been the victim of a scam, you should contact your local law enforcement agency or the Florida Division of Consumer Services (800-HELP-FLA).

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call my office at 561-355-2996 or send me an email.

Best regards,

Sharon R. Bock, Esq.
