Contesting A TRAFFIC TICKET

To plead Not Guilty and request a hearing for a traffic infraction, you must submit your request online, in person or in writing within 30 days of the citation being issued.* You must attend a mandatory pretrial hearing either in person or via a video conference, where you will have the opportunity to speak to the hearing officer.  No witnesses or law enforcement officers will be present. If your case is not resolved after the pretrial hearing, a trial will be set for a later date.

You will either sign for the court date after the pretrial hearing or you will receive the notice of the trial date by mail. If your request was submitted online, the notice will be posted online for you to view and print. You will be assigned a location for your trial.

Online:
To submit your request online and set a court date, visit my Criminal Records, click on "Log In" under Public User and then select "Set Court Date for Citation." Hearings held by video conference cannot be scheduled online.

By Mail or In Person:
If submitting your request in writing, your correspondence must include a correct mailing address and the citation number on which you are requesting the hearing. Mail your request to the nearest Clerk & Comptroller's office listed below. Allow 30 days to receive your notice of hearing by mail. If you do not receive your hearing date within 30 days, please call (561) 355-2996.

*If 30 days have passed since the ticket was issued and you have not notified our office, you must submit a $16 late fee and $7 compliance letter fee with your request for a hearing.
