CLERK & COMPTROLLER, PALM BEACH COUNTY NAMED CFO AWARD FINALIST
Annual awards by the South Florida Business Journal honor region’s top financial executives
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (January 27, 2014) – The Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County was recognized by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the region’s top financial leaders during its 2014 CFO Awards reception on January 22.
Clerk Sharon Bock and the Clerk & Comptroller’s office was a finalist in the Public Company category, along with executives from Norwegian Cruise Line and SBA Communications. The award went to Norwegian Cruise Line.
“It is an honor to be recognized alongside these outstanding companies,” Clerk Bock said. “The Clerk & Comptroller’s office prides itself in providing excellent financial stewardship for Palm Beach County and its taxpayers, and I am grateful to the South Florida Business Journal for understanding the importance of what we do and naming us as a finalist for this important award.”
The Clerk’s office was selected as a finalist for the CFO Awards for its work as Palm Beach County’s Comptroller, including:
- Reducing the Comptroller’s budget by 33 percent since FY 2007 by proactively leveraging technology and aggressively renegotiating contracts.
- Remitting a total of $40.2 million in earned revenue to the County since 2005, including $5.4 million for FY 2013.
- Creating a model for the comprehensive education of public fund managers called the “Financial Literacy Program.”
The Clerk’s office has been recognized by a number of organizations for its work in government finance, including top awards from the Government Finance Officers Association and the Center for Fiduciary Excellence. Its financial publications, including Checks & Balances: Your Guide to County Finances, have been honored by the League of American Communications Professionals and the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.
