CLERK COLLECTING USED CELL PHONES FOR
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS
Drop off phones at the Clerk’s Self Service Centers by October 29
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (October 21, 2010) – Just a few days remain to donate used cellular telephones for area domestic violence victims, as part of the Clerk & Comptroller’s annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month initiative.
Phones will be collected through the end of October at the Clerk’s Self Service Center in the Main Courthouse in West Palm Beach, as well as Self Service Centers at branch locations in Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Belle Glade. The phone chargers are also needed.
All donated phones, which can be used by victims to call 9-1-1 in an emergency, will be donated to YWCA’s Harmony House and to the Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse. Last year, the office donated nearly 100 phones.
“While we build awareness about domestic violence during October, it’s a community problem that needs attention throughout the year. Thank you for anything you can do to prevent violence or help a victim in need,” said Clerk Sharon Bock.
The Domestic Violence section of the Clerk’s website, www.mypalmbeachclerk.com, has many resources for victims, including information about how to file an injunction or complaint, answers to frequently asked questions, and contact information for agencies that assist domestic abuse victims.
