Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County named vision award winner

“Checks & Balances” ranks # 35 among the top annual reports in international contest

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (February 28, 2014) – The Clerk & Comptroller’s annual guide to Palm Beach County finances was placed 35th in its category of the “Top 50 Annual Reports Worldwide” by the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP).

In addition to its top 50 ranking, Checks & Balances: Your Guide to County Finances also earned a Gold Award in the LACP’s 2012/13 Vision Awards annual report competition. There were more than 6,000 entries in the competition representing nearly two dozen countries.

The LACP is an organization dedicated to supporting, recognizing and advancing excellence in the practice of professional communications. Judges complimented Checks & Balances for its “great understanding” of its audience, and for creating “a very engaging communications element.”

“Each year I strive to make government finance accessible and relatable to all of our county’s taxpayers. Checks & Balances and our other financial reports provide clear, concise financial information about Palm Beach County,” Clerk Sharon Bock said. “I thank the League of American Communications Professionals for recognizing our commitment and our efforts.”

The Checks and Balances guide, a retrospective look at Fiscal Year 2012, contains useful information about how Palm Beach County tax dollars are spent, economic factors that affect county revenues, and how property taxes are calculated. The information is drawn mostly from the more detailed Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Both reports are produced at the end of each fiscal year and are available, along with other financial information, on the
County Financial Reports section of www.mypalmbeachclerk.com.

The Clerk & Comptroller has been recognized by a number of organizations for its work in government finance, including top awards from the Government Finance Officers Association and the Center for Fiduciary Excellence. Its financial publications, including Checks & Balances, have been honored by the LACP and the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals. The office also was a finalist in the South Florida Business Journal’s 2014 CFO Awards competition as one of the region’s top financial leaders.
