CLERK & COMPTROLLER’S GUIDE TO COUNTY FINANCES IS ONLINE
Clerk Bock Releases “Checks & Balances” to help Palm Beach County taxpayers know how County money is managed, spent
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (June 3, 2011) – Just as Palm Beach County government begins discussions about the upcoming budget year, the Clerk & Comptroller’s new edition of Checks & Balances: Your Guide to County Finances is available to help taxpayers learn about County government spending, revenue, debt and other financial factors affecting the County’s financial health.
This user-friendly resource, which is available on the Clerk & Comptroller’s website at www.mypalmbeachclerk.com/countyfinances, addresses many topics impacting your tax dollars; including where County spending grew or decreased during the previous fiscal year, how your property taxes were impacted, how much money the County owes and if there are signs of an economic recovery.
The fifth annual user-friendly Checks & Balances guide is based on the more detailed Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which is also produced by the Clerk & Comptroller and available online.
“The framers of our state Constitution found it vital for citizens to have an independent, elected Clerk & Comptroller to provide a check and balance on county government,” said Clerk Sharon Bock. “As the County’s Chief Financial officer, Accountant, Treasurer and Auditor, I’m committed to reporting directly to citizens about matters affecting their tax dollars and, ultimately, their own bottom line.”
Both Checks & Balances and the CAFR have been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in financial reporting. Checks & Balances received its fourth consecutive “Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting” in 2010, while the CAFR earned its 21st consecutive “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” honor.
Checks & Balances, the CAFR and other financial guides – including the County’s Annual Investment Guide and Annual Debt Guide – are available at www.mypalmbeachclerk.com/countyfinances.
