Clerk Bock Recognizes Volunteers for Service During National Volunteer Week

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (April 19) – Volunteers with the Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office worked 16,495 hours and saved more than $334,000 in tax dollars last year, providing valuable support and service to the Clerk’s office at a time of budget cuts and layoffs. During National Volunteer Week, which begins today and runs through April 23, Clerk Sharon R. Bock thanked volunteers for their efforts on behalf of the office.

The Clerk’s office currently enlists the services of 104 volunteers at the Main Courthouse and at the Governmental Center in West Palm Beach; at the North County Courthouse in Palm Beach Gardens; at the South County Courthouse in Delray Beach; and at the West County Courthouse in Belle Glade.

Volunteers work alongside the Clerk’s office staff and play an important role, providing information and assistance to the public and performing duties such as filing, research and data entry. Qualified volunteers also provide specialized help in finance, human resources, communications and technology.

Clerk’s office volunteers include retirees, high school students earning community service hours and people interested in keeping their job skills sharp while they seek other employment.

All volunteers must be at least 15 years old, pass reference and criminal background checks, and successfully complete a drug screening.

Please visit the Volunteer section of this Web site to learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Clerk & Comptroller's office.

The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents.  In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
