WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (February 15, 2012) – New foreclosure cases filed in Palm Beach County dipped slightly in January, but the number of foreclosures increased significantly compared with the same time in 2011, according to the latest statistics from the Clerk & Comptroller’s office.

There were 1,196 new foreclosures filed in January, down 1.9 percent from the 1,219 cases filed in December 2011. However, the number of cases is up 39.1 percent compared with the 860 foreclosures filed in January 2011.

“Our numbers for new foreclosure cases have stayed fairly consistent since last summer,” said Clerk Sharon Bock. “The last time we saw fewer than 1,000 new foreclosures filed was in July 2011.”

Foreclosure Sales Results

There were 1,202 properties sold during January’s online foreclosure auctions, according to statistics from Grant Street Group, the facilitator of ClerkAuction®. Of those, 1,005 were sold back to the plaintiff – typically a bank or mortgage company – in the foreclosure proceeding, while 197 were sold to a third party.

There were 394 scheduled auctions cancelled in January, out of 1,596 advertised for sale. The cancellation rate was at 24.7 percent, compared with 27.4 percent in December.
