“A Garden of Art” Exhibit Showcases Student Artwork in Public Display at Clerk & Comptroller’s Office

West Palm Beach, Fla. (April 18, 2019) – More than 75 local middle school students are showcasing their artwork as part of a year-long public exhibition sponsored by the Clerk & Comptroller’s Clerks 4 Arts program.

The exhibit, entitled “A Garden of Art,” opened to the public on Monday, April 8, at the Clerk & Comptroller’s office at the Palm Beach County Governmental Center. It features more than 150 original pieces made by students at Conniston Middle School in West Palm Beach.

The Clerk & Comptroller’s Clerks 4 Arts program encourages creativity and civic engagement by providing local students a public venue to display their artwork and curate their own exhibitions.

“We know there is a correlation between the arts and student achievement, and my office is committed to providing students an important creative outlet that will further their education while showcasing their artistic talents,” said Clerk Sharon R. Bock, Esq. “Our schools are creating our next generation of leaders, and we are proud to support them through our Clerks 4 Arts program.”

This year’s exhibit is inspired by botanical gardens. It features original watercolor paintings, drawings and decorative tiles handmade by Conniston students.

“The Clerks 4 Arts program allows students to share their creativity, while also providing an opportunity to experience business matters associated with planning and curating a large-scale public display,” said Shannon R. Chessman, the Clerk & Comptroller’s Chief Operating Officer. “It is an honor and privilege to partner with Conniston Middle School and the School District of Palm Beach County on this important program.”

In its fourth year, Clerks 4 Arts has raised $7,400 to support Conniston Middle School’s arts education program. After a year on display, the artwork showcased during the exhibition is sold through an online auction to raise money for the school.

At the opening of this year’s exhibit on April 8, Clerk Bock presented a check in the amount of $2,900 to Conniston’s Principal Oscar Otero. The money was raised from the sale of art displayed during the 2018 Clerks 4 Arts exhibition and other fundraisers held by the Clerk & Comptroller’s team.

The “Garden of Art” exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clerk & Comptroller’s office on the second floor of the Palm Beach County Governmental Center, 301 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach. Artwork will also be displayed at the Clerk & Comptroller’s four courthouse locations in West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Belle Glade.
