WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (December 10, 2018) – More than 240 children will receive a gift package filled with new shoes, socks, underwear and a toy this holiday season thanks to the generous donations of employees with the Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County.

The Clerk’s team donated nearly 1,000 gift items valued at roughly $10,000 to children participating in the Back to Basics Angel Program, which provides the basic necessities for children in need. The items may be the only gifts many of the children receive this holiday, according to Back to Basics, the Wellington-based nonprofit that runs the Angel Program.

Clerk employees also raised more than $2,000 for Back to Basics this month through the office’s Dress Down Program. Roughly 200 employees volunteered to make a $10 donation to Back to Basics. In exchange for their donation, employees are able to dress down at work on Wednesdays in December.

“We are committed to supporting Palm Beach County nonprofits and programs that improve the quality of life for those in need,” said Clerk Sharon R. Bock, Esq. “It is an honor to lead a team that is so dedicated to giving back to their community.”

This is the second consecutive year that Clerk employees have selected Back to Basics to be the recipient of the office’s holiday giving campaign. Last year, Clerk employees donated 880 gift items valued at $8,880 to 222 children participating in the Angel Program.

Through the office’s Clerks for a Cause program, employees nominate local nonprofit organizations to receive employee donations. The Clerk’s employee-lead Charitable Giving Committee votes on the nominations each year.

Clerk employees who volunteered to participate in the Angel Program were provided the first name and age of a child, along with their shoe, sock and underwear sizes. Employees were asked to select an age-appropriate toy to accompany the other items.

“These are the basics,” said Kelle Enriquez, a volunteer with the nonprofit. “They cost a lot of money. You can’t find them at a thrift store. I can’t tell you how many kids are excited to get underwear because they can’t afford them or they don’t have them.”

Last month, nearly two dozen Clerk employees helped Back to Basics kick off the holiday season by wrapping items at the nonprofit’s Wellington warehouse. The Clerk’s team wrapped roughly 1,000 gift items for 200 local children.
