Clerk Wins Digital Edge 50 Award

First to Automate the Processing of Court Documents Worldwide

Post Date:12/12/2018 5:45 PM

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (December 12, 2018) – The Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller’s groundbreaking use of artificial intelligence to provide customers with faster, increasingly efficient service earned the office national recognition from CIO Magazine as a 2019 Digital Edge 50 Award winner.

The prestigious award for the Clerk’s office followed a highly competitive nationwide contest. The honor is frequently given to Fortune 500 companies that execute digital transformation initiatives with a significant, measurable business impact.

The Clerk’s office is the first government agency in the world to use artificial intelligence software to maximize productivity, accuracy and efficiency in the courthouse. The software reads, classifies and dockets electronically-filed judicial records around the clock – even on weekends and holidays.

The revolutionary program is transforming Florida’s court system, allowing documents to be processed almost immediately after they are filed.

“I’m honored that our artificial intelligence program has been recognized as a leader in digital innovation, and that it will serve as a model for other organizations around the world,” said Clerk & Comptroller Sharon R. Bock, Esq. “This is a testament to our commitment to embracing technology and advancing innovation to provide the best possible experience to our customers, the taxpayers.”

Since launching the program in March, the software has been trained to read and process multiple types of documents. By July 2019, the majority of electronically-filed court records will be docketed automatically.

“As the world’s technology becomes more advanced, customers expect faster service,” Clerk Bock said. “We are committed to continuing to exceed the public’s expectations by remaining on the forefront of machine learning.”

To implement the artificial intelligence program, the Clerk’s office used software developed by Florida-based Computing System Innovations (CSI), a leading provider of automated indexing, redaction and classification solutions that is based in Florida. The Clerk’s team worked closely with CSI to test, evaluate and enhance the software.

The work the Clerk’s office has done to advance the technology makes it easier for other Clerks across Florida and other organizations to launch similar automation programs. National experts – including representatives from Clerks offices from several states, members of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and facilitators from the National Center for State Courts – visited the Clerk’s office in July to learn how other court offices can incorporate the technology into their operations.

“I am extremely pleased to hear that the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office has received this prestigious award for their visionary adoption of Intellidact AI technology,” said Henry Sal, President of CSI. “Being part of the Clerk’s achievement validates Intellidact AI as a leader in the market. First in the world is pretty hard to beat.”

Clerk Bock will accept the Digital Edge 50 Award on behalf of her office at the AGENDA19 Conference to be held March 18-20, 2019 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
