WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (August 20, 2025) – Three local students will start their school year with a $1,500 college scholarship, thanks to generous donations from Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller employees.
This year’s winners are Peter Jefferys of Lake Worth, a graduate of South Tech Academy; Simone Jefferys of Lake Worth, a graduate of South Tech Academy; and Martin Mejia of Greenacres, who currently attends the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
The Clerks for a Cause Scholarship Program is open to children of Clerk employees. The applications are reviewed by Clerk’s office employees who select winners based on the student’s community service, grade point average and 500-word essay.
Peter Jefferys will attend Santa Fe College in Gainesville. He plans to study Sports Management and transfer to the University of Florida. He is the son of Payables Manager Jessica Comis and twin brother of fellow scholarship recipient Simone Jefferys.
Simone Jefferys will attend Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, where she will study Illustration. She is the daughter of Payables Manager Jessica Comis and twin sister of fellow scholarship recipient Peter Jefferys.
Martin Mejia majors in Film at UCF. He graduated from Palm Beach Central High School and is the son of Human Resources Generalist Claudia Mejia.
The Clerk’s scholarship program is funded solely through donations from employees who voluntarily participate in the office’s Dress Down Program, which allows team members who donate $5 per pay period to wear jeans once a week. Since 2021, Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller team members have raised $200,000 for local charities and have volunteered nearly 6,500 hours to community groups.
