What is OpenGov?
OpenGov is a cloud-based financial transparency tool that displays government finances over a multi-year period.
How do I navigate the site?
OpenGov allows you to explore finances in a simple graphical user interface.
- The Report Title is at the top left corner, along with a brief description and the data’s last update date.
- On the left-hand side of the screen there is a list of available reports. At the bottom of the list of reports you may see an option to select Filters or Views of the selected report. Views are specific sub selections of the selected report.
- Select Filter to display key menus, which are as follows:
There are five different types of visual representations of the data:
- Stacked line graph to visualize overall trends over time.
- Line graph overlaying each trend over time.
- Pie chart to view percentage breakdowns by year.
- Stacked percentage graph to see percentage changes over time.
- Bar chart comparing trends and percentage breakdowns over time.
Below any chart or graph, you can view a Table detailing the financial information in the visualization above.
On the top right corner, you will see Download, Login, Help, Share:
- Download drop-down in the top right corner to:
- Download an image of the graph or table as a .png file.
- Download a spreadsheet as a .csv file.
- Login button is not needed or used.
- Help drop-down in the top right corner to view OpenGov provided documentation.
- Share drop-down in the top right corner to:
- Share your customized graph or chart through social media.
- Send a link to your customized graph or chart through email.
- Download options if not shown separately.
How do I select the data I want to see?
To focus on specific data — like a fund, department, unit, or any combination — use the menu on the left side panel. The “By” drop-down allows you to specify which breakdown you want the graphs and table rows to represent on the graph.
How do I see the actual numbers within a graph?
Hover over any area of the graph to see the amounts for that selection or just scroll down to see a table with detailed information.
How can I save the data I am looking for?
There are Share and Download buttons in the upper right corner. You can share any view on a social network or by email. There are also options to download the displayed data in .csv spreadsheet and .png image formats.
What can I do if the report I want is not on this site?
You can make a public records request.
