Registration open for free group wedding at the National Croquet Center in
West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (December 28, 2010) –  Found love and now looking to tie the knot without breaking the bank? Clerk Sharon Bock is pleased to announce the Clerk & Comptroller’s “Sweetheart Deal” Valentine’s Day wedding—an opportunity to get married at a world-class ceremony site on the most romantic day of the year, for just the cost of a marriage license.

Clerk Bock will preside over the group Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony at 2 p.m. on February 14, 2011, at the National Croquet Center in West Palm Beach. The Center, which hosts weddings and special events, has generously donated its facility for the occasion. This is the first time the Clerk’s office has offered a group wedding ceremony at a non-courthouse location.

“The economy has put a dream wedding out of reach for so many people,” Clerk Bock said. “We thought this would be a wonderful community gift for couples who are starting their new life together, but may not be able to spend thousands of dollars to create a unique ceremony".

Couples interested in taking part in the Valentine’s Day wedding must register online in advance, and present a valid marriage license at the ceremony. The wedding will be limited to the first 40 couples who register at mypalmbeachclerk.eventbrite.com. Registration is open from now through February 10, 2011. Please visit the Marriage Licenses & Ceremonies section of the Clerk’s website, www.mypalmbeachclerk.com, to learn about the mandatory marriage license requirements and fees set by the State of Florida that must be complied with prior to participating in this event.

Thanks to the support of several local businesses, participating couples will also receive flowers, wedding cupcakes, a champagne toast and be entered in a drawing for prizes which include hotel stays and spa services. The Valentine’s Day ceremony would not be possible without donations from the following “Sweetheart Deal” community partners:

  • The National Croquet Center - Providing its West Palm Beach facility for the event. The Center’s exclusive caterer, SandyJames Fine Foods, will provide a champagne toast for all couples.
  • Heaven & Earth Floral – Providing a rose for each bride and boutonniere for each groom, as well as a floral centerpiece for the ceremony.
  • Hoffman’s Chocolates - Donating 150 wedding cupcakes to be enjoyed after the ceremony.
  • Crane’s Beach House – Donating a drawing prize of a two-night stay in a one-bedroom suite on Feb. 14 and 15 for one lucky wedding couple.
  • Hyatt Place - Donating a two-night stay in an executive boardroom suite for one couple at its new hotel in downtown West Palm Beach.
  • Anushka Spa, Salon, & Cosmedical Centre at City – Providing spa services for one couple.

Additional donated items and prizes may be announced later. Only participating couples are eligible for the prize drawing.

“I’m so grateful for the generosity of the local businesses that support our Valentine’s Day wedding. This ensures that this wonderful event can happen with no cost to the public, and couples only paying the cost of a marriage license,” Clerk Bock said.

For those looking to get married, but not on Valentine’s Day, the Clerk’s office offers low-cost ceremony options year-round. With the “Sensible Start Wedding Package,” couples can get a marriage license, commemorative certificate, photography and ceremony in the office’s matrimonial suite for less than $150.
